多くの戦国武将に仕えた名工、初代会津兼定の脇差です。後の十一代兼定の祖となる刀工で、ガッシリとした最上大業物の兼定といった風格で、ザングリとした地鉄とあいまって、堀川物や三品一派などの慶長新刀に見える作風です。刃は小沸の冴えに匂いの深さがあわさって、とても物切れしそうな雰囲気があり、和泉守兼定のような風格があります。

This swordsmith’s employers were Ashina Moriuji, Date Masamune, and Gamō Ujisato.

Aizu Kanesada was the swordsmith in Iwashiro (Fukushima). Samurai of the Aizu domain had a strong love for their hometown and preferred local swordsmiths. The hamon of this sword is very attractive, and the Koshirae is also good.
